Spring Fundraiser

Donate to our fundraiser here!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Saratoga Farmers’ Market is seeking donations to help our organization to keep operating and improving the market. Your donation will be used for essential functions of the market as well as to help us to reach more of our long-term goals for the community. We are looking for additional resources to expand our community offerings including hosting family friendly events, programs, and activities and providing on-site services.

Our organization is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit, so all donations are always tax deductible!

The Saratoga Farmers’ Market is entering its 45th year in operation. Our mission is to serve the community in three ways: 1. To provide a marketplace for farmers in our area to help promote small family farms. 2. Offer the community a source of quality, locally grown produce, scratch made baked goods and foods, as well as a source of unique hand-crafted items made by area artisans. 3. Provide a hub of family-friendly activity for the community.

The past few years have been a strong reminder for the need for community, a resilient local economy, and a resilient local food system. Our farmers’ market fits all of these needs and is an essential part of our community. We provide the region with fresh produce, meats, and baked goods as well as quality handmade items.

Our market is run by a few part-time employees and a small volunteer board consisting of our vendors. The market has grown and evolved to a point that we need more resources to run it effectively. All of our programs, events, and workshops are free for the community, but it is challenging for our organization to absorb all of the costs. Currently, almost all of our funding comes directly from the small farms and businesses who vend at our market. We are looking for more ways to diversify our funding in order to keep the financial burden of running the market from getting too high for our vendors.

What makes our market unique? Our market takes pride in our strict “Producer Only” policy, meaning that everything you see for sale is grown or produced by each vendor. This means that you can be assured that what you find at our market is grown or made by the vendor selling it. This gives customers the opportunity to form a direct connection with the farmer, craftsperson, and/or producer.

We are the longest running market in the region. Please help us to continue to serve the community. We cannot do this without you. Thank you for your continued support!

Get ready to mushroom into a world of flavor at th Get ready to mushroom into a world of flavor at the Saratoga Farmers' Market! 🍄🌱 This week, we're thrilled to highlight the Mushroom Shop and their incredible selection of locally grown and harvested mushrooms. We spoke with owner's Jacob and Elysee to learn more.

Q: What are some of the health benefits associated with consuming mushrooms?

A: Mushrooms contain a multitude of medicinal compounds. The mushroom species Cordyceps militaris contains cordycepin, which increases your blood's ability to absorb and transport oxygen, improving exercise performance. Mukitake or Panellus serotinus possesses compounds that have shown in recent studies to improve liver function in people suffering from fatty liver disease. Reishi mushrooms improve immune health, warding off sickness and reducing inflammation. Other medicinal mushrooms include Turkey Tail, Chaga, Agarikon, Maitake, and Lions Mane.

Q: What inspired you to start selling mushrooms at the farmers' market?

A: We initially got our inspiration from a mushroom farm based in Tennessee called Mossy Creek Mushrooms. They have many videos on Youtube covering every aspect of operating a mushroom farm from building and maintaining equipment to harvesting and marketing mushrooms. Jacob has had an interest in growing mushrooms as a hobby for about eight years when he discovered a patch of oyster mushrooms growing in the wild. We got the opportunity to lease land in the beginning of 2021 and shortly after started selling at farmers’ markets.

Q: How do you recommend customers prepare and cook the mushrooms they purchase from you?

A: At our farmers markets we always provide printed recipes that utilize the mushrooms available during the current season. Like meat, mushrooms can be cooked in a variety of ways, such as sautéing, roasting, and grilling to create a flavorful dish. One of our recent favorites is a Spicy Crispy Lion's Mane Sandwich- a thick slab of Lion's Mane mushroom battered and fried on a toasted bun with spicy mayo and pickles. This is a delicious take on a chicken sandwich made entirely of whole, natural produce.
