Kale is available at the market during many months of the year. While almost everyone has heard that it’s nutritious and a healthy vegetable to incorporate into meal plans, many still wonder how to prepare it. The following recipe is good with just about any type of kale.
Tasty Kale with Garlic
(*Ingredients available at the market)
Ingredients
8 leaves fresh kale*
One or two cloves garlic* (optional)
Water
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Tear or chop green leaves to bite size and remove the tougher stems. Finely chop garlic.
Put kale and garlic into cooking pot or sauce pan.
Add up to ¼ cup of water to keep kale moist and prevent kale from sticking to the pan, season if desired with salt and pepper.
Put on stove top on medium to low heat and gently toss with two wooden spoons to keep the mixture moving in the pan until kale has wilted or softened for 1-5 minutes, depending on taste and how tender the leaves are. (Larger leaves may require additional cooking time.)
Remove from heat and serve.
Variations
Use a tablespoon of oil instead of water.
Add lemon juice to taste.
Add apple juice to taste.
